I think that Facebook is in a very tough position. If they censor content there will be outrage. If they don’t censor content, there will be outrage. Nevertheless, they have to do something, anything, to appear to be toeing the line yet addressing the problem. I’m pleasantly surprised to see them implement this new restriction.
Social Media Today’s “YouTube’s Adding New Still Image Ads“
It was only a matter of time before a video platform bowed to the pressures of image ads. It’s not like images will be less aesthetically pleasing (someone should research that, eh) but it will certainly be unexpected on a platform like YouTube. I’m curious to see how it plays out. Images are certainly less costly to produce than video ads, but will CTR performance support using one over the other?)
- Social Media Today’s “Here’s What You Need to Know About WhatsApp’s Major Security Flaw“
I have a healthy distrust of any company that tells me they found THE solution to X. I use Whatsapp because it allows me to communicate with my family across the world and at the time I could afford a smart phone, that was the app everyone else was using. *Shrug* It’s disappointing to hear that an app as privacy driven as Whatsapp could be subject to such a breach of privacy. Is this going to cause me to switch platforms? Probably not. But I will continue to be paranoid and think that all apps are hackable and every word I use can come back to haunt me.
- Vice.com’s “Thousands of Facebook Groups Go Secret in Fear of the Great ‘Zuccing’“
First of all, the term “Zuccing” is hilarious. Second, I’m with the admins on this one, better safe than sorry. Interacting with Facebook support after they’ve already suspended your page is HELL.
David Gaugrahn’s “Time To Ditch Mailchimp?“
I only recently got back into blogging and I selected MailChimp for my email platform. Why? Because they tiered their services in such a way as to make it inexpensive/free AND because I’ve used it extensively before. I wouldn’t have expected a brand such as MailChimp to make such drastic changes so badly. The rollout was très terrible!
